Traditions Quilt Show

Presented by Walnut Valley Quilters Guild

April 2 & 3, 2005

Members of Walnut Valley Quilters Guild are gearing up for the 2005 Traditions Quilt Show! It will take place at Winfield High School in Winfield, Kansas on Saturday and Sunday, April 2 & 3. Folks who love to create quilts and those who enjoy the creative quilting work of others will find plenty of entertainment at this two day event. Hundreds of quilted items created by Walnut Valley Quilters Guild members will be on display. There will be quilts of all sizes and shapes, wall hangings, quilted pillows, wearable quilted items, and other assorted quilted items. The event will be open Saturday from10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission for one or both days is $5.

Bed Turnings. Bed turnings will be a part of the 2005 show. Several of the guild’s treasured members will be showing their quilts--from the beginning of their quilting lives to the present time. Each of the bed turnings will be about 45 minutes in length and will certainly be an important part of the Traditions theme. These will take place on both Saturday and Sunday.

Opportunity Quilt. The opportunity quilt, Garden Patch, will be given away at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, at the conclusion of the second day. The beautiful quilt is a generous queen size (86x100) and was machine pieced by Joyce O’Laughlin. It was hand appliquéd and hand quilted by members of Walnut Valley Quilters Guild. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and may be purchased from a WVQG member or by contacting Donna Beene (620.442.9570), Joyce O’Laughlin (620.442.9543), Elaine Killblane (620.442.6750), Donna Thompson (620.221.1909), Leta Sherwood (620.221.0767), Claudia Ehlers (620.845.2270), or Rippit Quilt Shop (580.362.1234). Tickets will also be available at the show.

Miniature Quilt Auction. A silent auction of miniature quilts and wall hangings made by WVQG members will be held during the quilt show. Bidding will take place both days and will close at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. This is a popular event and bidding is a fun and exciting way to be involved in the show.

Quilted Treasures and Sew Forth. The WVQG’s country store will have all sorts of great items for sale during the show. These are some of the items being offered by the creative and talented guild members: ironing mats, backpacks, purses, quilted bags, iron covers, chenille hot pads, quilters’ friends (pincushion with attached trash bag), miniature wooden sewing machines and quilts racks, and glass plates decoupaged with fabric. There will also be show pins, show t-shirts, and other items for sale.

Lectures and workshops: Lectures will be given by Jo Morton, Nancy Hornback, and Donna Sandberg. Morton and Sandberg, along with Debbie Wiesner, will offer workshops during the show. These will be available at an additional cost to the attendee. A workshop for students will also be offered to children ages 10 and up.

Other. There will be more than thirty vendors at the show and some of them will be demonstrating various products of interest to quilters. Please note that no children under the age of 6 years will be admitted and no strollers will be allowed.
