I am doing one version of the blocks by doing the "embroidery" in crayons. I outlined the flowers with a Pigma permanent pen, then colored in the flowers. The baskets were marked with a fabric marker, then lightly colored. Heat set the blocks between layers of paper towels to absorb the wax and set the color.

This site helped me identify different stitches because it showed a type of "classification" for them. Example: looped stitches, knotted stitches, etc. I haven't embroideried for quite some time!! http://www.overthemoondesigns.com/StitchIndex.htm

http://inaminuteago.com/stitchindex.html Go to this website for stitches--lots of stitches. Charlotte Brewer passed this on from her daughter to the Thursday Morning Thimblers group. I think others would enjoy it too. (Hint: If you want to save the diagrams with the explanation, just highlight the area, copy and paste into a blank word processor page. This way you can create your own booklet of stitches!)
